L-Test Changes

Changes are coming to the Driving Test on Monday 4 December.

Driving test changes from December 2017

The driving test in England, Scotland and Wales will change from Monday 4 December 2017.

The changes are designed to make sure new drivers have the skills they’ll need to help them through a lifetime of safe driving.

The 4 main changes to the test are:

the independent driving part of the test will increase to 20 minutes
most candidates will be asked to follow directions from a sat nav
the reversing manoeuvres will be changed
answering a vehicle safety question while you’re driving

Learners required to do 120 hours before test?

First question: “Why?”

Second question: “Why now?”

In an article today, it is claimed that three years ago, a study by the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), at the behest of the Department for Transport advised a one year learning programme, with a minimum of 120 hours (20 of which would be evening / night driving) all documented in a logbook.

This was shelved at the time, it is claimed, because David Cameron did not want to appear to be at war with motorists.

2015 DVSA Trial driving test

All ADSOM instructors fully support the amendments to the testing system, and the trial currently under way at selected test centres. The only Driving Test Centre currently offering the trial in our area is Sheffield Handsworth, and at the moment candidates have the choice to opt in or out of the trial.

What are we looking for?
When you look out of a junction what are you looking for? Cars? Trucks?
No. You arent. If you think you are, are you perhaps kidding yourself???? When was the last time you went to a junction and said to yourself Oh I hope there are lots of Cars and Trucks at the junction???

Winter Tyres

Winter tyres: what are they?? Why you should be using them during winter months rather than normal tyres??

There is a total lack of awareness about winter tyres. Either motorists are not aware they exist or they think that a winter tyre can only be used in heavy snow or ice.
